Mexico Final Settlement (Finiquito) Calculator
Mexico · EmploymentEstimate an ordinary final settlement (finiquito) in Mexico (resignation, end of contract, or mutual agreement): pending salary, prorated Christmas bonus (aguinaldo), pending vacation, and vacation premium. This is a rough estimate — the real amount can vary based on your contract, benefits above the legal minimum, taxes, deductions, and specific circumstances. If there was an unjustified dismissal, there may also be severance pay (liquidación) that this calculator doesn't include (see FAQ).
How is it calculated?
The finiquito adds several independent items: (1) pending salary = daily salary × unpaid days worked; (2) prorated aguinaldo = daily salary × aguinaldo days per year × (days worked in the calendar year ÷ days in the year) — same as the aguinaldo calculator; (3) pending vacation = vacation days owed based on your seniority (Federal Labor Law table), prorated by the time elapsed in your current service year, minus the days you already took; (4) vacation premium = a percentage (minimum 25%) on that pending vacation pay; (5) other amounts you enter manually (bonuses, pending commissions…). The total is the sum of all five.
Examples
3.5 years of seniority, resigns August 31
Estimated final settlement: 17,294.28.
Resigns a month and a half after being hired
Estimated final settlement: 3,932.05.
What the final settlement includes
The finiquito brings together what you've already earned and haven't been paid: pending salary, prorated aguinaldo, pending vacation, and vacation premium. It's always paid when the employment relationship ends, whatever the reason.
- Pending salary: days worked that haven't been paid.
- Prorated aguinaldo: for the days worked in the year. Details in the aguinaldo calculator.
- Pending vacation: what you're owed based on your seniority, minus what you already took, with its vacation premium (minimum 25%). Details in the vacation calculator.
- Other earnings you enter: accrued bonuses or commissions.
Finiquito and liquidación aren't the same thing
The liquidación (severance/dismissal compensation) is an additional item that only applies if there was an unjustified dismissal: the three-month constitutional compensation, the seniority premium, and, in certain cases, 20 days per year. If you were dismissed, calculate that scenario with the dismissal severance calculator and check with PROFEDET.
