Mexico Christmas Bonus (Aguinaldo) Calculator
Mexico · EmploymentCalculate how much Christmas bonus (aguinaldo) you're owed in Mexico: if you worked the full year you get the full aguinaldo, and if you only worked part of the year, the calculator automatically prorates the days based on your hire date.
How is it calculated?
Aguinaldo = daily salary × aguinaldo days per year × (days worked in the calendar year ÷ days in the year). By law you're owed a minimum of 15 days of salary per year (Article 87 of the Federal Labor Law, LFT); your contract or collective agreement can give you more, never less. The aguinaldo is calculated over the calendar year (January 1 to December 31), not your hire anniversary — if you started mid-year, only the part of that year you worked is prorated.
Examples
Full year worked, daily salary of 500
The full aguinaldo is 7,500.00 (15 days).
Hired July 2, daily salary of 400
The prorated aguinaldo is 3,008.22 (equivalent to 7.52 days).
How the aguinaldo is calculated
The aguinaldo is daily salary × aguinaldo days (minimum 15 by law) × days worked in the year ÷ days in the year. If you worked the whole year, it's simply daily salary × aguinaldo days.
It's calculated over the calendar year (January 1 to December 31), not your hire anniversary: if you started mid-year, only the part of that year you worked is prorated. The law requires paying it before December 20.
With a daily salary of 500 and the full year worked, the aguinaldo is 7,500.00. With a daily salary of 400 and hired July 2, you're owed 7.52 days: 3,008.22. Illustrative figures.
Aguinaldo and income tax (ISR): how much is exempt
The Income Tax Law exempts the aguinaldo up to the equivalent of 30 days of UMA; only the excess is taxed. With a daily UMA of 117.31, the exemption is 3,519.30. Even if your aguinaldo is prorated, the exemption is still considered in full.
Aguinaldo if you leave the job before December
If you resign or are let go before year-end, you're entitled to the prorated aguinaldo for the days you worked, and it's included in your final settlement. To see how much you take home after taxes and contributions, use the Mexico net salary calculator.
