Dominican Republic Christmas Salary Calculator
Dominican Republic · EmploymentCalculate your Christmas salary (regalía pascual or double salary) in the Dominican Republic: one twelfth of the ordinary salary you earned during the year. You can enter the annual total or month-by-month amounts; if you didn't work the full year, the calculation is prorated.
How is it calculated?
Article 219 of the Labor Code: the Christmas salary is one twelfth of the ordinary salary earned by the worker in the calendar year. Overtime pay and profit-sharing are excluded from the calculation. It's paid no later than December 20, even if the contract ended earlier, regardless of the reason (Art. 220). Someone who didn't work the full year receives the part prorated to the time worked: since only what was actually earned is added up, it comes out proportionally on its own (for example, 5 months of 30,000 give 150,000 ÷ 12 = 12,500). That's why the last salary × months isn't simply used when the salary varies. The same article says the Christmas salary won't exceed five legal minimum wages; since the minimum wage depends on the company's category and size, the calculator doesn't apply a fixed cap: if you enter the applicable minimum wage, it shows the comparison with that limit, and the result is presented before any possible cap. The paragraph added by Law 204-97 clarifies that the income-tax exemption applies even if the amount exceeds five minimum wages. It doesn't count toward the notice period, severance pay, or economic assistance. This is a rough estimate.
Examples
Full year with a salary of 30,000 a month (annual total: 360,000)
360,000 ÷ 12 = 30,000, to be paid no later than December 20.
Only 5 months worked (August to December) at 30,000
Salary earned in the year 150,000 ÷ 12 = 12,500 (prorated).
Christmas salary, regalía pascual, and double salary
These are three names for the same right: one twelfth of the total ordinary salary for the calendar year. It's paid no later than December 20.
With ordinary salaries of 360,000 in the year, the Christmas salary is 30,000. If you worked fewer months, it's calculated from what was actually earned: the sum of what was received ÷ 12. Overtime and profit-sharing aren't counted. Article 219 sets a maximum of 5 legal minimum wages (enter the one that applies to you in the calculator to compare), and the Christmas salary is exempt from income tax even if it exceeds that amount. Figures are illustrative.
