Pool Salt Calculator

Calculate how many kilos of salt you need to add to your pool to reach your salt chlorinator's target salinity.

Check your salt chlorinator's manual; 4-6 g/L is typical.

How is it calculated?

Salt needed (kg) = pool volume (m³) × (target salinity − current salinity) in g/L. Check your salt chlorinator's manual for the recommended working salinity; 4-6 g/L is a common range for residential systems.

Examples

  • 48 m³ pool, from 0 to 5 g/L

You need to add 240 kg of salt.

  • 21.6 m³ pool, from 2 to 5 g/L

You need to add 64.8 kg of salt.

How much salt to add to a salt-chlorinated pool

The kilos of salt are the volume in m³ times the difference between target and current salinity, in g/L. For 48 m³ from 0 to 5 g/L, that's 240 kg.

Check your chlorinator's manual for the working salinity. Add the salt in several batches and measure again before finishing. You need the volume: calculate it with the pool volume calculator.
