Dominican Republic Vacation Calculator
Dominican Republic · EmploymentCalculate your vacation in the Dominican Republic: 14 working days between 1 and 5 years of service and 18 with 5 years or more, with prorated vacation of 6 to 12 days when you have less than a year. Shows the pending days and their estimated value.
How is it calculated?
Article 177 of the Labor Code: 14 working days of vacation after one year and up to five years of continuous work, and 18 days after five years. The right accrues each time one year of uninterrupted service is completed (Art. 178). With less than a year, indefinite-term contracts grant prorated vacation under Articles 179 and 180: 6 days with more than 5 months, 7 with more than 6, 8 with more than 7, 9 with more than 8, 10 with more than 9, 11 with more than 10, and 12 with more than 11 months. Value of a day = the period's last salary ÷ the daily divisor (23.83 monthly; 11.91 biweekly; 5.5 weekly). Following the official Ministry of Labor calculator's methodology: if you've already taken the vacation for the last full year, the prorated days of the fraction are paid; if not, the full period (14 or 18 days) is paid and the fraction's days aren't added. Vacation isn't compensated in cash while the contract lasts, except for the compensation paid at termination (Art. 182). This is a rough estimate.
Examples
5 years without taking last year's vacation (09/01/2021 to 08/31/2026), 30,000 monthly
18 days accrued × 1,258.92 = 22,660.51.
2 years and 7 months, last year's vacation already taken (12/10/2023 to 07/24/2026)
7-month fraction: 8 prorated days = 10,071.34.
Vacation days by seniority
14 working days apply after one year of service and 18 days after five years. If you have less than a year, a prorated part applies starting at five months.
With a salary of 30,000 and 5 years without having taken last year's vacation, 18 days are paid at 1,258.92 each: 22,660.51. Figures are illustrative. If the contract ends, vacation is included in the final settlement.
