Convert Image to Base64
Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF image and convert it to Base64 (Data URL), ready to paste into CSS, HTML, JSON, or anywhere else that needs the image embedded as text.
What a Data URL is
A Data URL is a way to embed a file's full content inside a piece of text, in the form data:<mime-type>;base64,<data>. A browser or app can use it exactly like a normal URL (in an <img src="…">, a CSS background-image property, or a JSON field), without needing an extra network request for the file.
When embedding an image like this makes sense
It's useful for tiny icons or images you want to inline directly in code (avoiding an extra HTTP request), for attaching an image inside a JSON payload or an API that doesn't accept binary file uploads, or simply to inspect what an image's real Base64 looks like.
For the reverse process (Base64 → image), use Base64 to image.
The size increases when encoding to Base64
Base64 represents every 3 original bytes with 4 text characters, so the result weighs roughly 33% more than the original image file. For large images, embedding as Base64 isn't always the most efficient option compared to serving them as a separate file.
