Paint Calculator
Calculate how many liters of paint you need to paint a room, a whole apartment, or a façade. Just enter the surface to paint (already subtracting doors and windows), the number of coats, and the paint's coverage.
How is it calculated?
Liters needed = (surface to paint in m² × number of coats) ÷ product coverage in m²/L. Coverage is listed on the paint can's spec sheet; if you don't know it, 10 m²/L per coat is a common value for interior plastic paint on an already-primed wall.
Examples
80 m² of wall in a living room, 2 coats
You need about 16 L of paint (4 cans of 4 L).
25 m² of wall in a small room, 2 coats, lower-coverage paint
You need about 6.3 L of paint (2 cans of 4 L).
How to calculate the paint for a room
Liters = wall surface × coats ÷ coverage per liter. For 80 m², 2 coats and 10 m²/L, that's 16 liters.
Calculate floor and ceiling surface with square meters. Buy a bit more than calculated for touch-ups.
- Surface: the room's perimeter × height, minus doors (≈1.6 m²) and windows.
- Coats: two are usually needed for an even finish.
- Ceiling: calculated separately with the room's length × width.
