Solar Panels Calculator
Estimate how many solar panels you need to cover your monthly electricity consumption, using the Peak Sun Hours (PSH) method.
How is it calculated?
Daily consumption (kWh) = monthly consumption ÷ 30. Daily generation of one panel (kWh) = panel power (kW) × PSH for your area × performance ratio (which discounts losses from the inverter, wiring, temperature, etc.). Panels needed = daily consumption ÷ daily generation per panel, rounded up. PSH varies by latitude and local climate, roughly between 3.5 and 5.5 in most inhabited areas; 4.5 is a rough average if you don't know your exact location's figure.
Examples
300 kWh/month, 450 W panels, PSH 4.5, 80% performance
You need about 7 solar panels.
450 kWh/month, 400 W panels, PSH 4, 75% performance
You need about 13 solar panels.
