Chile Vacation and Prorated Leave Calculator
Chile · EmploymentCalculate your leave in Chile: the leave days you've accrued, the ones you've already used, the pending ones, and how much prorated leave would be paid if the contract ended. General rule: 15 business days a year (with more than one year of service).
How is it calculated?
Annual leave is 15 business days with full pay, counted Monday to Friday (Saturday is always considered a non-business day). In Magallanes, Aysén, and Palena province it's 20 business days: this doesn't apply to the rest of the country. Prorated leave is calculated as follows (the Labor Directorate's method): annual leave days ÷ 12 = business days per month worked (15 ÷ 12 = 1.25); multiplied by the full months elapsed since your last anniversary (or since hire, if you haven't completed a year), plus 1.25 ÷ 30 for each day of the partial month. If the contract ends, weekends and holidays falling within that period (counted on the calendar from the day after termination) are added to those business days, and each day is paid at compensation ÷ 30. The compensation base depends on its type: fixed = salary; variable = average of what was earned in the last 3 months; mixed = salary plus that average. It doesn't include progressive leave.
Examples
Hired March 15, 2024, cutoff September 30, 2026, 5 days already used, salary of 900,000
From the last anniversary (March 15, 2026): 6 months and 15 days = 8.13 days accrued; 3.13 pending. If the contract ended, 5.13 days would be paid including non-business days: 153,750.
Labor Directorate official example: hired March 15, 2021, terminated November 17, 2021
8 months and 2 days: 10.08 business days; with 4 non-business days, that's 14.08 days to pay out: 422,500 (without rounding the 0.0833-day fraction).
How leave days are counted
Annual leave is 15 business days, counted Monday to Friday: Saturday is always considered a non-business day. In Magallanes, Aysén, and Palena province it's 20.
Prorated leave is calculated by dividing the annual days by 12 (1.25 business days per month worked since your last anniversary) plus 1.25 ÷ 30 for each day of the partial month. If the contract ends, the period's weekends and holidays are added, and each day is paid at compensation ÷ 30.
Calculation example
When the contract ends, prorated leave is included in the final settlement.
