Trip Fuel Cost Calculator

Calculate how much you'll spend on fuel for a trip, based on the distance, your car's fuel consumption, and the fuel price — with round trip and passenger splitting built right into the calculation.

How is it calculated?

Total distance = the distance you enter, doubled if you check round trip. Liters needed = (total distance ÷ 100) × consumption (L/100km). Total cost = liters needed × price per liter. Cost per person = total cost ÷ number of passengers.

Examples

  • One-way 500 km trip, 6 L/100km consumption, diesel at 1.65 per liter

You need 30 liters: 49.50 in fuel.

  • Round-trip 250 km trip, 7.5 L/100km consumption, gasoline at 1.55 per liter, 3 passengers

500 km total, 37.5 liters: 58.13 in fuel, 19.38 per person.

How to estimate a trip's fuel cost

The liters needed are the distance divided by 100, times the consumption, and the cost is that amount times the price per liter. For 500 km at 6 L/100 km, you need 30 liters.

To find your real consumption, use the fuel consumption calculator; the rest of the trip's costs (lodging, food) are in the trip cost calculator.

  • Round trip: turn on the option and the calculator doubles the distance for you.
  • Several passengers: enter how many of you there are and see the cost per person directly.
  • Real consumption: on highways or with a full load, it's usually higher than the rated figure; use your real average consumption.
