What format this QR uses
The QR encodes a text in the standard WIFI:T:<security>;S:<network name>;P:<password>;H:<hidden>;; format that both Android and iPhone recognize when scanned with the camera — it's not a link or a special image, it's exactly the same kind of QR code as any other, just with this specific content.
Special characters in the name or password
If the network name or password contain semicolons, commas, colons, quotes or a backslash, this tool escapes them automatically so the format doesn't break — without that escaping, a QR with those characters would still be generated, but the phone wouldn't be able to connect with it.
Great for printing
A common use is printing this QR on a sign for guests, a coffee shop or an office: anyone with a phone camera connects without asking for the password out loud or typing it letter by letter.
