Unix Timestamp Converter
Convert between a Unix timestamp and a date, in seconds or milliseconds, seeing the time in UTC and your local time.
What a Unix timestamp is
The number of seconds (or milliseconds) elapsed since January 1, 1970 at 00:00 UTC (the "Unix epoch"). It's the most common way to store a date in databases and APIs.
Privacy
The conversion happens in your browser with the native Date object. It's never sent to Numelto.
Seconds vs. milliseconds
If converting gives you an absurd year (like 1970 or 57000), it's almost certainly the wrong unit. To read dates from a token, use the JWT decoder; to schedule hourly tasks, use the cron builder.
| Example | Digits | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| 1750000000 | 10 | Seconds |
| 1750000000000 | 13 | Milliseconds |
Why UTC instead of local time for storing dates
Storing timestamps in UTC avoids ambiguity when users are in different time zones or when daylight saving time changes; the conversion to local time only happens when displaying the data, not when storing it.
