JSON to YAML & YAML to JSON
Convert between JSON and YAML in either direction, with validation for both formats.
Two independent panels
Write or paste JSON in the left panel and click "Convert to YAML" to generate the right panel, or the other way around. Each panel is validated separately.
Privacy
The conversion happens in your browser. Neither the JSON nor the YAML is sent to Numelto.
When to use each format
To validate or beautify the JSON before converting, use the JSON formatter; if your data is in XML, XML to JSON.
| Format | Typical use |
|---|---|
| JSON | APIs, application config, data interchange |
| YAML | Human-readable config: CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker Compose |
What gets lost converting YAML to JSON
YAML supports comments and some structures JSON doesn't have (like internal references via anchors); when converting to JSON, comments are removed because the JSON format doesn't support them — check the result if your original YAML used them.
Indentation in YAML
YAML uses space indentation (never tabs) to represent the data hierarchy, unlike JSON, which uses braces and brackets; when converting from JSON to YAML, the tool generates that indentation automatically, so you don't need to count it by hand.
