Color Contrast Checker (WCAG AA / AAA)
Check the contrast ratio between a text color and its background, and whether it meets the WCAG AA and AAA accessibility levels.
What the WCAG AA and AAA levels are
They're the conformance levels of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). AA is the minimum level recommended for most sites; AAA is a stricter level, meant for content where readability is especially critical.
| Level | Normal text | Large text |
|---|---|---|
| AA | 4.5:1 | 3:1 |
| AAA | 7:1 | 4.5:1 |
What "large text" means
Per WCAG, text is considered large at 18pt or more (24px), or 14pt (≈18.5px) bold — that text has a less demanding contrast threshold because it's easier to read even with less contrast.
