Chinese Zodiac Calculator
Find out your Chinese zodiac animal and element, calculated using the real Chinese New Year dates — never a simple division by 12.
Covers dates between 1900 and 2031, verified against the real Chinese calendar.
Chinese New Year doesn't fall on January 1
The Chinese calendar is lunisolar: New Year falls on a different date each year, between late January and mid-February. If you were born in those first weeks of the year, your animal may be the previous year's — that's why this tool uses the real Chinese New Year dates, verified year by year, instead of simply calculating year % 12.
Animal and element
The 12-animal cycle combines with a 5-element cycle (wood, fire, earth, metal, water), forming the traditional 60-year sexagenary cycle — that's why your year can be, for example, "Wood Dragon" rather than just "Dragon".
