Dominican Republic ITBIS (VAT) Calculator
Dominican Republic · TaxesCalculate ITBIS (the Dominican Republic's VAT) in the Dominican Republic: add 18% to a price without ITBIS or remove the ITBIS from a price that already includes it. The general ITBIS rate is 18%; the custom percentage is only a math convenience.
How is it calculated?
To add ITBIS to a price without ITBIS: total = base × (1 + 18 ÷ 100) = base × 1.18. To remove ITBIS from a price that already includes it: base = total ÷ 1.18 and ITBIS = total − base. The general rate of the Tax on the Transfer of Industrialized Goods and Services (ITBIS) is 18% (Law 253-12). Not every operation is taxed at 18%: there are exempt goods and services (for example, certain medications, basic foods, and health, education, financial, or housing-rental services) and others with specific treatments. The custom percentage option is for math calculations and doesn't change the legal rate. Results are rounded to 2 decimals. This is a rough estimate: confirm the treatment of your operation with the DGII.
Examples
Add 18% ITBIS to 100
ITBIS 18 and total with ITBIS 118.
Remove ITBIS from a price of 1,000
Base 847.46 and ITBIS 152.54.
How to add or remove ITBIS
The general ITBIS rate is 18%. To add it, multiply the price without ITBIS by 1.18; to remove it from a final price, divide by 1.18.
Adding 18% to 1,000 gives 180 of ITBIS and a total of 1,180. Conversely, from 1,180 the base is 1,000 and the included ITBIS is 180. Some goods and services are exempt or have a different treatment: the calculator applies the general rate.
