Discount Calculator
Calculate how much you save and how much you'll finally pay after applying a discount to a price.
How is it calculated?
Discount amount = original price × discount percentage ÷ 100. Final price = original price − discount amount.
Examples
An item priced at 80 with a 25% discount
You save 20 and pay 60.
An item priced at 150 with a 10% discount
You save 15 and pay 135.
How to calculate the discounted price
The savings are the original price × the percentage ÷ 100, and the final price is the original minus the savings. With 80 and a 25% discount: you save 20 and pay 60.
Shortcut: multiply the price by (1 − discount). With a 25% discount, multiply by 0.75.
Successive discounts: 20% + 10% isn't 30%
Two discounts in a row don't add up: the second one applies to the already-discounted price. A 20% discount followed by 10% equals a 28% total discount, not 30%.
To apply them with this calculator, calculate the first discount and use the resulting price as the original price for the second one.
| Discounts | Multiplier | Total discount |
|---|---|---|
| 20% then 10% | 0.80 × 0.90 = 0.72 | 28% |
| 30% at once | 0.70 | 30% |
| 10% then 10% | 0.90 × 0.90 = 0.81 | 19% |
Discount and sales tax
The order rarely affects the result, but it's worth knowing whether the displayed price already includes tax. To add or remove sales tax from a price, look for your country's indirect tax calculator in the money section.
