Ecuador IESS Contributions Calculator
Ecuador · EmploymentCalculate the IESS (Ecuadorian Social Security) contributions of a private employee in Ecuador: the 9.45% employee contribution deducted from the salary, the 11.15% employer contribution paid by the employer, and the 20.60% total.
How is it calculated?
Employee contribution = contributable compensation × 9.45%. Employer contribution = contributable compensation × 11.15%. Total = 20.60% of contributable compensation. The employee contribution is deducted from the worker's salary; the employer contribution is paid by the employer and is NOT deducted from the salary. The employer's base salary cost is the compensation plus the employer contribution. These percentages apply to private employees under an employment relationship and don't include reserve funds (8.33%), which are a separate benefit calculated on its own. Contributable compensation includes the salary and other compensation subject to contribution. This is a rough estimate: IESS payroll records may reflect other figures.

Employee and employer contributions to the IESS
| Contribution | Percentage | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Employee | 9% | Deducted from your salary |
| Employer | 11% | Paid by the employer on top of the salary |
| Total | 21% | On contributable compensation |
What the 11.15% employer contribution translates to
The employer contribution isn't deducted from your salary: the employer pays it on top of what you receive, and together with the employee contribution it funds your health insurance, pensions, and other IESS benefits. That's why the real cost of an employee to the company is higher than the gross salary you see on your payslip.
